Glen says that in grade school he was "hard headed" - always getting in trouble, acting out, and not really trying to learn. But, you wonder about cause and effect. By fourth grade he was stored in Special Education where little, if any, effort was made to actually teach him much. He does remember coloring books. He doesn't remember anyone showing him how to read. By fourteen he was "catching chickens" at the poultry plant. He would go on to a life of labor which lead to a disabling back injury. Learning now to read, Glen still dreams about owning his own restaurant where he might sell BBQ - once he can read the labels on the spices.
