We Can, But Don't.

Joyce S. Pickering, Hum. D., Executive Director Emerita, of the Shelton School in Dallas, Texas, graciously shared time with us to discuss the calamity of illiteracy in America. We talked at length about why so many children do not learn to read, how the educational systems are failing to solve this problem, and the seemingly simple solution that is all but ignored. She tells us that we know how to teach every child to learn to read despite the fact that so many leave school or even graduate unable to read and write at a meaningful level. It is certainly frustrating to know that we can teach everyone to read, yet millions can’t.
